In a design contest, designers from around the world submit concepts based on your brief. You select finalists, provide feedback to refine the designs, and ultimately choose your favorite shirt as the winner. If you value ideation and exploring a variety of design styles, we recommend a design contest.

However, if you have a clear vision for your T-shirt or a more complex design project, it’s best to start a project with a freelance designer.

On 99designs, designers agree to upload only original artwork, retaining the rights to their designs until you select a winner. During the design handover stage, the designer transfers the rights to you, making you the owner of the copyright for your winning T-shirt design.

Select “Make your contest private” from the “Contest options” section before launching your T-shirt design contest. This prevents designers from using their designs elsewhere and makes your contest unsearchable on the web.
